Introduce differences between EMF, EMI, EMC

Introductions:

Since the beginning of the universe, the sun was created and it sent many Electromagnetic waves that play vital roles in life on earth and source of energy. It is true that you can’t see these energies but it’s sensible and we can sense it like heating energy. So one of the most important natural sources of EMF on the earth from beginning life is the sun. other sources of energy were explored by mankind until the 20th century.

At the end of the 20th century, technology was rapidly developed to supply different types of facilities for life and also use of the electromagnetic field as a way of communication and transferring of the information by the energy of the waves. Nowadays wireless technology is replacing older technologies. This technology such as mobile, Wi-Fi, smart gadgets, Bluetooth systems, cordless phone, telecommunication antenna and … emit electromagnetic fields and waves for data transferring but they are not sensible with any since. Electromagnetic field spectrum divided into two different types of radiation as:

Ionizing Radiation: high-level energy of radiation which is harmful to the human body because of their ability to ionize the cells based on the amount of their transferring energy (such as X-ray, UV, gamma …).

Non-ionizing Radiation: low-level energy of radiation which is not harmful to human bodies because of their levels of energy below the ionization threshold.

But now we can see that Non-Ionizing Radiation could have different types of side effects in people’s incoherent exposures (such as IR, and ELF).

Two important types of radiation in the domain of non-ionizing radiation are radio frequency and microwaves which are the base of telecommunication systems and new technologies. On the other hand, home appliances and equipment, electrical railroad around us in addition to power distribution and transfer infrastructures make the electromagnetic field in lower frequency with high levels of penetrations.  this developments make new pollution all over the world and increasing all the time. So any pollution has own side effect on human and animal’s healthy life. Therefore coherent exposure to an electromagnetic field may increase common diseases such as sleep disorder, insomnia, tinnitus, fatigue, depressions and etc. especially in people with electro hypersensitivities.

What is EMI?

EMI= Electromagnetic Interference

Electromagnetic interference (EMI), also called radio-frequency interference (RFI) when in the radio frequency spectrum, is a disturbance generated by an external source that affects an electrical circuit by electromagnetic induction, electrostatic coupling, or conduction.[1] The disturbance may degrade the performance of the circuit or even stop it from functioning. In the case of a data path, these effects can range from an increase in error rate to a total loss of the data.[2] Both man-made and natural sources generate changing electrical currents and voltages that can cause EMI: ignition systems, cellular networks of mobile phones, lightning, solar flares, and auroras(northern/southern lights). EMI frequently affects AM radios. It can also affect mobile phones, FM radios, and televisions, as well as observations for radio astronomy and atmospheric science.

What is EMC?

EMC= Electromagnetic Compatibility

 Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is the ability of electrical equipment and systems to function acceptably in their electromagnetic environment, by limiting the unintentional generation, propagation, and reception of electromagnetic energy which may cause unwanted effects such as electromagnetic interference (EMI) or even physical damage in operational equipment. The goal of EMC is the correct operation of different equipment in a common electromagnetic environment. It is also the name given to the associated branch of electrical engineering.
